Well how do you decide what to watch, the tv or the turtle?
Southern Painted's are smallest of the four subspecies of Painted Turtles that inhabit eastern North America. When this picture was take in Aug 2010, Peppi was 1.25" SCL (3.2 cm) and weighted 0.2 oz (6.5 grams). Peppi shares a 20 gallon (75 litre) tall tank (24" x 12" x 16" - 60 cm x 30 cm x 40 cm) with Bermuda, our other Southern Painted hatchling.
...I saw Striped-necked turtles in pet shops in China 3 years ago.
We adopted Raider from another turtle keeper who needed to rehome him. He is still too young to properly sex but I have a suspicion that he may be a she. Diamondback terrapins are the only species called terrapins in North America. They live in salt marshes along the Atlantic seaboard and the Gulf of Mexico. They may be kept in fresh water tanks but are very susceptible to shell problems.
Raider is Mr Personality plus and will swim over and climb into my hand at feeding time. He is very small
I adore this species!
You could really poke an eye out with those claws!
Very nice turtles!
We purchase Pinstripe from a Canadian breeder when he was about a year old. He lost most of his tail when he was a hatchling, but his given us proof that he is a fully functional male. He has his own 45 gallon (170 litre) tank, 36" x 18" x 16" (90 cm x 45 cm x 40 cm). When this picture was taken, Dec 2010, he was two years old, 3.75" (9.5 cm), 4.5 oz (130 g). We expect him to reach an adult size of 6-8" (30-40 cm) so a tank upgrade in in his future next year.
Is there an under gravel filter?
WOW! That tanks amazing! I wish I had a tank like that!
Heehee cute pic
What a bargain! It looks great
I love this! wow, very inspirational
I think Ziggy might be doing a little more then hitching a ride...
You will have to raise your water level and dock as the turtle will not be able to get close enough to the light.....also the water level on the heater is a bit of a worry!
Otherwise, all is good!
They are Elseya stirlingi- the Johnstone River turtle.
Excellent shot, perfect timing.
Saw-shelled turtle (Myuchelys latisternum)
