    Hi guys,

My partner and I were gifted a turtle from my parter's parents and want to give the little guy/girl the best life we can.

I'm looking for recommendations for somewhere in Brisbane that I can get some essentials. I've been doing some reading online and I've already learned that the frozen turtle food he/she's been eating isn't the best thing for a turtle's diet - so some better food is a main priority atm.

I'm looking for a bigger basking rock as well - the one we inherited is too small for him/her.

Also if there's a reptile specialist that can help me determine the species / sex of our new aquatic housemate that would be great as well. I would post pictures on here but my phone is wrecked. Will do so later when my partner gets home from work though.

    Thanks in advance!

Hello Scaahht and welcome to AFT. :) It's great you've found this place if you're wanting to give your turtle the best shot at a long and happy life.

A photo will help determine the species of your turtle, and to determine the sex (assuming it's big enough) you'll need to take a photo of its tail from underneath the turtle. What food is recommended depends on the species.

It is recommended to read the Care Guide (linked to below in my signature) right through a few times to make sure you're doing all you can to keep your little guy/gal healthy and happy.

In the meantime, good to have you on board!

    Hi Smoyle, thanks for replying!

I'm going to sit down with my partner and read through everything we can find on here later haha. We want to do the best we can.

With regards to the little guy, I think we have the same one that’s in your photos, just a bit older. I'll post a couple of pics when the missus gets home with her phone.

Also roughly where are you in Brisbane? I'm inner north so know where to get stuff in that general area (both in terms of stores and local creeks for critter hunting :) ).
